The BVU men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in their final regular season matches on Saturday afternoon, and both came away victorious by topping visiting Briar Cliff, 6-3 (men) and 7-2 (women).
“Most of us played really well, and it was good to end the season with a win,” sophomore Marcus Rihner said.
BVU got off to a strong start by winning two of the three men’s doubles matches. The number two doubles team of junior Ben Stone and sophomore Remi Nshuti, as well as the number three team of Rihner and fellow sophomore Aaron Brewer each picked up victories. In singles, BVU got wins from Nshuti, Rihner, and first-years Dan Bell and Christian Price. The women’s team finished their season by nearly sweeping all six singles matches, losing only at number five when first-year Melanie Pham fell in a third-set tiebreaker. The number-one doubles duo of sophomore Emily Gutschenritter and junior Megan Anderson and the number three team of Pham and sophomore Tracey Ellis both performed well.
“I was very pleased with how both teams finished this season,” head coach Kevin McCadams said. “We have a very young team of both men and women, and we will only continue to move forward.”
The men will now take part in the IIAC Championships on May 7-8.
