The BVU men’s tennis team ended their 2010 season last weekend during the Iowa Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament in Cedar Rapids, where sophomore Keifer Nevius advanced to the semifinals of the Class C singles matches.

Nevius cruised into the quarterfinals with 8-1 and 8-2 victories, respectively, before picking up a thrilling 8-7 win to advance into the semifinals.

His bid for a trip into the championship match came up just short when he dropped a thrilling 6-4, 7-6 (2) decision to Central’s Pat Daly.  Nevius wraps up his season with an overall record of 6-13 singles matches.

Nevius and teammate first-year Dan Bell joined up in the Class B doubles division to advance into the quarterfinal round with 8-2 and 8-6 triumphs, respectively.  Their season then came to a close after an 8-5 setback in the semifinals.

Head Coach Kevin McAdams was pleased by the players’ performances at the individual conference tournament. It was their best finish in years, with four players winning at least a round in singles and doubles. These players included first-years Christian Price and Eric Rodine, and sophomores Marcus Rihner and Nevius.

“Keifer had a great run going as he made it to the semi-finals.  Dan Bell and Keifer also won two rounds of doubles before losing a tough match, they played very well,” McAdams said.

The Beavers end their season on a note of consistency and improvement. They worked on making less unforced errors and playing with more shot tolerance, while becoming more complete players. With their best finish in years at the conference tournament and improvement on their standing in the conference, McAdams is thinking very positively about the upcoming years.

“We have a very young team of sophomores and freshman who will only continue to improve with experience, so I am excited about the future for BV tennis,” McAdams said.
