On college campuses today, the numbers of individuals who are involved with rape or attempted rape are on the rise. According to an article on collegenews.com, 1882 men on college campuses were surveyed, and 120 men in the group admitted to committing acts of rape or attempted rape. That is six percent of the total survey sample and about 76 of the 120 men admitted they had committed the crime more than once.
The worst part about it is that a person would never know if one of their closest friends was also someone who had committed this heinous crime.
However, I do not feel the survey hit the entire populace either. I hate to burst the reality bubble, but men are not the only ones who are capable of rape. Women are just as capable of taking advantage of people as men are. So, why not include women in the survey as well? Are people afraid of giving certain groups a bad name? If that is the case, I find it funny because the media portrays women as being catty and vengeful people.
There are plenty of people on college campuses who take advantage or get taken advantage of in a sexual way. Yet people never hear about it.
This fact makes me wonder whether or not this is happening right here at Buena Vista University. I remember there was a case of sexual assault two years back, but has anything happened since then?
More and more men are admitting to rape and this is just the men, what about the women? What else is going on in the world that we don’t know about?
Rape, a larger problem then we thought
