Has this ever happened to you? You jokingly post something as your Facebook status, like “I’m gonna be a dad…..someday,” and in response get about a million people commenting on it, as if you or your girlfriend were really pregnant.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I hate it when people take my Facebook status or comments too seriously.
For anyone who knows me, I am not a serious person when it comes to my Facebook status. I’m not the type of person who uses their status to gripe about every little stupid problem in their life. I use it to either joke or say positive things; more than likely joke.
If you are telling a friend congratulations, honoring a family members life, or telling someone happy birthday, it is okay to be serious.
I do not need to know that you had the worst day of your life because your professor told you your paper was less than average.
It doesn’t just stop at your overall status either. Oh no, that would be far too easy. I know of people who will constantly check their crushes page, looking through their pictures, statuses, comments, and anything else they can to try to find evidence of them being with someone else.
Seriously people! If you like someone, just tell them and don’t stalk them, that’s just creepy and somewhat psychotic.
Oh, and another thing, since we are talking about relationships, breaking up with someone via Facebook is just plain, well, weird and stupid.
Everyone freaks out when someone goes from “single” to “in a relationship,” and then they freak out again when they are “no longer listed as in a relationship.” Why does Facebook have to be the deciding factor?
Let’s go one step past statuses and move on to wall posts.
Here is the deal, just because I went to my friends wall and said, “Hey, what’s up! I heard you were feeling sick hope you are feeling better!” Does not mean that someone who doesn’t know my friend or me at all needs to interject on our conversation and add their own comment.
Since we are talking about everything else, why leave out liking a status? It’s cool if you like someone’s status but do you need to like it and then start a conversation underneath? Seriously this is getting out of hand!
Maybe someone just wants to be listed as having no relationship status. It doesn’t mean anything. Facebook is not the deciding factor, my friends.
You can be in a relationship, you can be friends, you can be anything you want to be in real
life and leave Facebook completely out of it. I know this is an insane way to think, but Facebook has seriously gotten way out of hand.
Again, I don’t take Facebook seriously when it comes to my page, and usually I don’t take other people’s pages seriously either. Facebook is not always a place for serious matters. It is a social networking website that people use to catch up with old and new friends.
Sometimes it is necessary to post serious matters on your webpage, I realize that, but that does not mean it is always serious.
Honestly, if you are looking at someone else’s Facebook page that closely, you either need to call that person and see what’s up, or you need to log off the computer and get yourself a hobby.
