Buena Vista Athletic Training Society (BVATS) and the athletic training staff held the first Beaver Wing Fest on April 28, 2010 in Scout Park.
Area restaurants were invited to come to Scout Park with a sampling of their signature chicken wings in an effort to have participants judge who has the best wings in the area. As an additional service opportunity, Student MOVE was holding a can drive in order to benefit Upper Des Moines.
The resaurant chosen to have the best wings in the area was Jackson’s Hometown Cafe from Webb, IA and they were declared the 2010 Beaver Wing Fest Champions.
BVATS members sold canned pop and water in order to raise additional funds. The cans were collected for recycling and the pop tabs were collected from each can to donate to the Ronald McDonald House.
This event was an opportunity to raise funds for athletic training students to attend a national conference in Philadelphia this June and to support the BVATS organization. By having Student MOVE include their can drive at the time of the event, it was a positive experience for both fund raising efforts.
