Vocal jazz students impress at performance

The BVU Jazz Choir dazzled audiences at their ninth annual spring concert in Anderson Auditorium on Wednesday, May 7. Directed by Paula Keeler, assistant professor of music, the 28-person ensemble performed a variety of group pieces with many impressive solo acts featured in between. (0) comments

Classical meets video

The BVU Concert Band had their final concert for the year on Sunday, May 4 in Schaller Memorial Chapel. Led by Jerry Bertrand, assistant professor of music, the Concert Band played a concert full of differing types of musical compositions. One of the songs the band featured was "An American Elegy. EdgeFest '08 is finally here! On Saturday, May 10, Storm Lake's Sunset Park will be raided by tons of BVU students and seven alternative bands: Mindrite, Destrophy, Emphatic, Here's My Chance, Four Word Cause, Throw the Fight and Same Sick Feeling. Spencer Fenimore (vocals), Jayson Kempf (guitar), Blake Brennan (guitar), Brice Gill (bass) and Donnie Mengwasser (drums), make up Mindrite, a Midwestern rock band from Des Moines that has been together since 2003. Recitals end on a high note

Senior Sandra Smith's vocal recital may have been a "time to say goodbye" Saturday night in Anderson Auditorium, but not before she, sophomore Jacob Richter and senior Cliff Coggins impressed the audience with their vocal talents. Smith started off the program with a series of Italian and German songs ("Voce di donna" from La Gioconda, "Si mes vers avaient des ailes," "Widmung" and Ständchen"), which were very dramatic-sounding in nature. The fifth band to know: Cinematic Sunrise The side project of Chiodos' Craig Owens and Bradley Bell, Cinematic Sunrise has already garnered a considerable amount of buzz - and they have yet to release an album.
