Mother's Day gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is only two days away, and some students might still be scrambling for a last-minute (or belated) gift for the woman who gave them life. Here are some cheap ideas that almost any mom would still love.
Personalized gifts. Countless websites out there let you order adorable customized gifts that can be shipped to your home address, right from the comfort of a dorm room. Sites like personalizationmall.com let users upload photos to create anything ranging from a steel travel mug engraved with family photos, to a frame with a cheesy, mushy saying in it customized to fit a certain mom’s personality. Don’t worry—these gifts won’t break a budget either. They have something for every price range, which is doubly convenient for broke college students. And something with a personal touch will say a lot more than a candle from Target.
BVU memorabilia! The campus store has countless options to choose from that will make moms feel more connected to their baby boys or girls who have flown the nest. From stuffed animals with the BVU logo to bumper stickers showing Beaver Pride, there are gifts that would most likely appeal to any mom. The campus store even has nifty shirts and sweatshirts that say “Buena Vista University Mom” so she can show her pride anywhere.
A handmade card. It may scream of the days when stick figures drawn with crayon next to a lopsided heart and MOM barely legible on the cover, but anything that a son or daughter makes for their mother will almost certainly bring her to tears. Something as simple as taking the time to make a card rather than turning to Hallmark means a lot.
A homemade gift. For the craftier students, a homemade gift is even better than a handmade card. It gives mom something that she can actually use instead of just admiring it on the dining room table. A crocheted or knitted scarf, a basket woven out of recycled magazine pages, a candy dish made out of clay—the sky is really the limit. Websites like make-stuff.com even have sections on how to make tons of things from items that many college students already have sitting around. It’s cheap and good for the environment at the same time.
A phone call. A surprising number of college students who cannot make it home for Mother’s Day neglect to give their moms the simplest and most meaningful gift they could give. Giving mom a call to tell her how much you love and appreciate her is the cheapest gift a son or daughter can give, but probably the most meaningful.
