Most of us are planning to work full-time this summer. We will need getaway once in awhile. A week off is a good time to get out of the city you’re working in, but weekends can be enough time also.
Of course, we aren’t going to have tons of money to spend, though. So what are cheap trips that are fun for college-aged adults?
Okoboji is a great place if you have a weekend free. There are a few small amusement parks, golf courses, shopping, and, of course, the lakes for boating and partying. Arnold’s Park and The Ranch are common amusement parks that can be fun at any age and aren’t too expensive. A lot of the shopping consists of outdoor shops, so it’s a neat experience. There are at least six golf courses in the area, if that’s what you prefer. There are also some natural wildlife parks, if that’s more your thing. The nightlife is said to be some of the best in Iowa, especially if you know people with a boat.
Kansas City is worth the road trip. There is so much to see from the Kansas City Royals to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. There’s the Kansas Speedway and Cabela’s for the guys, and all different shopping districts for the ladies. Don’t forget the largest dinosaur exhibit in the country also. There is plenty to do in KC, no matter who you are.
If you have more time to get away, Chicago makes for a good week-long vacation. With the Chicago Cubs, Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier, and endless bars and clubs, there isn’t a chance you’ll get bored in the windy city. Michigan Avenue has everything from high-end to cheap stores to choose from.
From experience, I would say the Shedd Aquarium is a must-see if you journey to Chicago. I didn’t get to the museums, but I’ve heard good things about all of them. Being a city of almost 3 million people, it has fun nightlife for everyone.
If you would rather get farther away, be sure to look up cheap flights.
Out of Omaha, there are often good deals to places like Las Vegas, New York City, and Los Angeles.
Do your research and watch for good deals. Obviously there will be plenty to do and see in cities like those.
If you’re up for it, you can always fly in to Los Angeles or Las Vegas and drive the 300 miles to the other.
Take advantage of your time off and see some of what our country has to offer.
If you aren’t into planning, there is always the option of grabbing some friends, jumping in your car, and road tripping. Either way, make the most of Summer 2010.
