In light of Valentine’s Day, Billboard released a top 50 list of the sexiest songs. In order to rank the songs, Billboard compiled a list of songs from 1958 until January of 2010. The songs were then placed in order based off popularity and time spent on the Billboard list. Songs varied from hip-hop, to classic rock, to popular.
What songs do the BVU students believe to be number one? Senior Jerica Wild believes the sexiest song is Maroon 5’s “Secret.”
“Adam Levine’s voice, the pace to the song, and the lyrics make it a sexy song,” Wild said.
Junior Kelsey Myers believes the sexiest song is Right Said Fred’s “I’m too Sexy.”
“I’m too Sexy’ is the classic sexy song, it screams sexy throughout the entire song,” Myers said.
The top ten list of songs included songs from the years 1973 to 2001. Rob Stewart collected two top ten spots with “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” and “Tonight’s the Night” representing number ten and number two respectively. Exile’s “Kiss You All Over” took the number nine spot.
Taking in the number eight spot is Madonna’s famous song “Like a Virgin” released in 1984. Number seven is the 1975 hit by Captain & Tennille, “Do that to me one More Time”. Donna Summer’s summer hit “Hot Stuff” takes the number six spot. The old-time classic “Let’s get it on” by Marvin Gaye hit number five on the countdown. The 2001 hit “Too Close” by Next was number four on the list. Boys II Men, whom are always very sexy with their lyrics, took the number three spot with their song “I’ll Make Love to You”.
What is the number one song? Well, you might be strangely surprised: Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical.” Why would this be the sexiest song? Well, according to Billboard it spent ten weeks at number one on the charts. Maybe it was Newton- John’s smoking hot body and voice that made this song the sexist ever.
In my opinion, the only thing sexy about this song is the video that was released. For the first few seconds of the video is shows sweaty men working out. Sexy men working on their fitness is definitely a must-see. The video takes a turn when the half-naked men turn into different men who may or may not be defined as sexy.
