It doesn’t take a fan to see that the Twilight craze is very evident on the Buena Vista University (BVU) campus. With the midnight showing totally sold out, students began counting down the hours to the show days before the premiere, as seen on Facebook statuses across campus.
Students widely expressed their excitement prior to the showing:
“I think I’m so excited because this movie is going to have the wolves in it, which will add another whole level of depth to the series, not to mention a few more pretty good looking characters,” junior Brittany Denker said.
“I think it’ll be better because the second book was more detailed and intriguing than the first. I’m most excited for the Volturi. It leads up to all the other books,” sophomore Chelsea Zaragoza said.
“My predictions for the new movie are mixed. I’ve heard mixed reviews on it. I am sure most fans are hoping to see Edward a lot in this movie, but I don’t think he’s in most of the book or the movie, it’s more about Bella and Jacob,” junior Rebecca Roth said.
In one of my finer moments of Co-Editor in Chief of the Tack, I decided it was necessary to jet out of Lage a bit early in order to catch the midnight showing of New Moon and report about it to the BVU community.
The movie was, in my opinion, a huge hit. The cast was perfect, with each role polished. Jacob (played by Taylor Lautner), stepped up and executed the “starring role” perfectly. I can’t think of a better way to live up to the standards set by Edward-crazed girls than to expose them to a bunch of charming, muscular, shirtless werewolves.
The change in the director of the movie (Chris Weitz) was the best thing that could have happened with this sequel. The movie, while consistent with the first, had a much more polished presence which made for a more interesting show overall. I think the hundreds of screaming girls in the theater would agree.
I'll be honest. New Moon was is my least favorite of all the books, but I felt a new appreciation for it as I watched it unfold into a movie.
Aside from the cast, the movie was an excellent film adaption of the book. It followed the story line much more closely than the first movie did, and was rid of the cheesy scenes and corny lines that littered the first movie. The visual effects were much more realistic and appealing, aside from the fantasy scene of Edward and Bella frolicking in the forest, as a result of one of Alice’s visions.
The plot is intense and really keeps you on the edge of your chair, although the last five seconds are the most intense seconds of the entire movie. My recommendation is definitely to go see the movie. It is worth the ticket price and more.
“I think girls like Twilight so much because Bella’s such a relatable character. Most girls see themselves as awkward and would never imagine someone like Edward wanting them. It also gets people caught up in the fantasy, every girl wants an Edward in her life,” junior Sierra Williams said.
