First and foremost, I would like to extend a sincere apology to anyone that took offense to my last article on Nov. 20. I merely was quoting the misconceptions of much of the music played on The Edge, hence the use of quotes around the stated misconceptions. My intentions were good, and that was to get people to step out of their boundaries, try something new and come to a concert. If you did make it to the concert, you were amazed at the young individuals representing a wide variety of genres in a positive manner. Again, my apologies to anyone who took it as being offensive.
Now, ‘tis the holiday season, and nothing makes me feel better than giving a gift to a family member or friend. Not just any gift, but a gift they love. I just ordered my dad the new Bob Dylan documentary and I know it will be one of his favorites (Dad, if you are reading this, sorry I ruined your surprise!). So, what are some of the best presents to get for the music guru in your life? Well, obviously college kids are not made of money, so I’ve got some of the best gifts to give for under $50.
Merchnow.com is a great place to go shop online. You can find awesome hooded sweatshirts, CD/t-shirt bundles, posters, accessories and more. For any fan of alternative music, I can promise you will find at least one band your music guru loves. Some of the bands include: Attack Attack, Paramore, A Day to Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, The Maine, Breathe Carolina and many more.
Does your music guru need new headphones? Get them a pair that is unique and shows their creativity. Skullcandy.com has got a wide variety of headphones in colors, sizes, styles and designs. I own a pair of the ear buds and I will vouch that they are worth the buy. If you don’t want to order online, you can find some available at your nearest Target store. You can get them as cheap as $15 but some are as much as $80.
With technology today, it is safe to say that most people now own a cell phone, laptop computer, iPod, gaming station or any other little nifty electronics on the market. Style their electronics up with one of the many “skins” available at www.music-skins.com. Skins are thin vinyl covers to protect electronics from everyday scratches. You’ll find any music themed skin from The Beatles to From First to Last with a little bit of Lil’ Wayne and Madonna in between. Most phones and iPod skins are $15, with laptops running around $20-30.
If you’ve got only $5 to spend, you can pick up one of the best gifts exclusively at Wal-Mart! Alternative Press Magazine has a special edition issue hitting the shelves on Dec. 22. The issue is not only a flip cover issue, but also includes 2 bonus CDs featuring the best of 2009 and the hottest up and comers of 2010, rubber bracelets, 20 free digital downloads, 25 exclusive interviews and more. A great gift for as much as it costs to get a foot long at Subway; a heck of a deal.
Now, if you don’t have money to spend, you shouldn’t worry one bit. The holiday season is about spending time with the ones you love, and your presence is a gift itself. Be thankful this holiday season for what you have, whether it be your family, friends, career, or your faith. Happy Holidays!
