The final BVU choir concert will be held on Sunday, May 16 at 3 p.m. This performance will be held in the Band Shell in Sunset Park.

The BVU chorus is under the direction of Asstistant Professor of Music, Paula Keeler. Accompanist to the choir is Deanna Larson from Storm Lake. The performance is free for students and community members.

Five students will be conducting special presentations. These students have selected one of the songs and prepared the chorus for the performance.

The students leading the chorus performances will include seniors Neil Anders and Adrian Dimas, juniors Rena Hayden and Corbet Butler  and sophomore Emily Erickson.

According to Hayden, the students in charge of these performances are conducting a song as part of their final grade as a course requirement. This grade is for the course Conducting II within the music department.

This has been a great learning experience for many of the student conductors.
“My favorite part will be hearing the finished work on Sunday. The conductors and students have put a lot of work into this show. It has been a great experience that will be great use in the future,” Hayden said.

“It is a great experience conducting a live ensemble. My favorite part is when the song is coming together and sounds just as you wanted the piece to turn out,” Erickson said.

The choir will be performing a variety of songs. Some of the songs will include selection from the popular Fox television show Glee. Also being performed are two African compositions with members of the choir playing percussion. A selection by Vaughan Williams will be performed and an Irish arrangement of “Danny Boy.”

Another song being performed is “Defying Gravity” which is from the popular Broadway musical Wicked.

Audience members will be asked to sing along for warm-up with the BVU choir at the performance. Those in attendance are also asked to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating to the event.

After the final chorus concert there will be a reception held in the park as well. The public is welcome to attend and no admission will be charged to attend the reception.
