From May 17-21, BVU’s senior Lindsey Marean will be presenting her senior show entitled “Marketing the American Dream” in the Art Gallery of the  Social Science and Arts Hall.
Marean’s show focuses on the perceptions of the shifting of the “American Dream” since the beginning of the most recent recession.  This message is depicted through items that would usually be used in marketing or advertising campaigns.

Marean’s show is based on an outside study done that shows how the perception of the “American Dream” has changed.

Marean, a Graphic Design and Media Studies double major, was inspired by Americans’ values.  She focuses on the shift through marketing and advertising, which is a growing part of Americans’ everyday lives.

Marean’s goal of her show was to “ [create]work that presents ideas to an audience, but lets them form their own opinions about the content. Even though the show is about the “American Dream,” it’s more a means of presenting information than presenting opinions.”

She wants her work to show viewers that perceptions are changing through comparing powerful pieces.

After hours of work, Marean is happy to see the process come together for her show.
“The process of starting out with ideas and ending up a complete show in a gallery is a great learning experience,” Marean said.

She knows that as a designer, great ideas are only the beginning  of a process that takes an artist to the final product.

This presentation will be yet another exhibit of the great talent we have here at BVU, and everyone is encouraged to go.

On Tuesday, May 18, there will be an open reception in the Art Gallery from 4 to 6 p.m. with the artist present.  Refreshments will be provided for those in attendance.
