Sick of going home from college and feeling like you don't fit in anymore? Do you feel as if you do not share much of same interests, or do not know how to have fun with your family?

Maybe The Dysfunctional Family Funbook is what you need. I know what you are thinking, sounds cheesy, right? It may be, but it can help make things more fun and less awkward when going home. It also has helped many readers deal with death and other unpleasant times that often come their way.

The author, Catheryn Brockett, suggests using this book instead of alcohol or therapy to get through things at home. She wants to help students to want to go home and see their families. Brockett gets the attention of readers by joking around.

"I tried to be the adult and take things seriously, but sometimes that's too stressful. I realized that a sense of humor can be just as helpful," Brockett said.

The book includes word and picture games, funny tips to try to help family learn to read each other's actions, ways to get to know each other, and advice about dealing with problems and crises. Some parts that I found especially interesting was the "Get Those Angries Out" section that gave safe suggestions for getting anger out and the page that has the readers match the emotion word with the facial expression.

The funny part is that each facial expression is exactly the same. It just represents how some people or entire families hardly show emotion. Brockett noticed this about her family when she was home for a funeral. It was this instance that helped with the inspiration to write the book and especially this activity.

And as reviews of the book go, I did not find any saying that people were dissatisfied with the book. Some families read the book because they know the author and ended up bonding with each other accidentally.

"I purchased this book for an extended family member who was going through a difficult time. From the minute she opened it the laughter started. The whole family joined in and actually 'bonded' over their recognized dysfunction. It completely lightened the mood. Outstanding book! I highly recommend it-especially for the holidays!" one consumer said.

The book is funny, but it isn't just a joke. It has really helped families. Brockett has a degree in theater and history. She has also taken acting classes and loves being in television commercials.

Brockett has had the opportunity to be in numerous television commercials for popular brands like Hoover Vacuums, Dell, Bank of America, Alltel, Dodge, and Kmart just to name a few. She gets to work with great people and crack jokes all day. Coming home was the hard part.

"You become the puzzle piece of a dysfunctional family that no longer fits," Brockett said. "But then you realize that it's not you. It's them. It may sound immature, but if that's what it takes to stay sane, so be it."
